This says it...

I thought this article articulated the way I've been thinking about this election, thought I'd share it. Big fans of either candidate won't like it, but it definitely reflects where I'm at with it. http://www.patrolmag.com/times/922/how-shall-we-then-vote

Dan -

You don't post very often, but whenever you do it always makes me think. I've been pro-Obama since his Senate run a few years back, and have thought all along he'd be a great leader for our country. So I have the bias.
But I love this article, as I think many people tend to vote based on one or two HOT issues (either hot based on religion or personal conscience or whatever reasons) instead of the big picture. I like that it is encouraging voters to be true to themselves - and to take action by not voting if they feel compromised doing so. I wish I had read this earlier in the season, I know a lot of people that I don't (and likely never will) agree with politically, but who I'm concerned are voting against their own conscience because of a few things that a candidate puts out there. Great read, thanks!

It was an interesting article. I know a lot of time I vote and really don't know a lot about the people I am voting for. For me,I guess, rather than not voting, I need to do more research into the candidates. I think everyone gets focused on the presidential candidates and really sometimes the local, state, and legislative and more important races. I'm not sure if you can skip voting for one candidate and still vote for others that you like and know you agree with. I don't know if blanks mess up your ballot. Prehaps that would help people if they could only vote for people they really wanted and ignore the others. I'm not sure. It has been a tough year in the realm of politics.
love ya,
Sandi

Oh, you can totally leave blanks in your ballot. They'll ask you after you cast it if you meant to skip anything, and just tell 'em "YEP!" - I did that when I had an issue with the candidates running for our US Representative. I agree - we get so wrapped up in the high level elections that it is easy to forget that the "little elections" (local) have more of a day-to-day impact on your community most of the time.
NOT that I'm stalking your blog, Dan...Maybe a little.

Hi Dan,
I'm glad you posted this article. I read it twice--once by myself and once with Bret. I think we are living in a nation with complex issues and complex politics, and what struck me in the article is how the author focused on Jesus and a person's relationship with Him rather than on the divisiveness that often occurs. I like that he talked about how the love of Christ and love for each other will be the true change we desire to see in the world. Thanks for sharing.
Love,
Erica

Well written brother. Sorry I gave you a hard time a while ago about voting. Derek Webb would not have been impressed -- all of my rationale was destroyed by his well written and articulated article. :-) You're always right; that's why you're the oldest and the wisest.

Love you!
